Cottages in South Cornwall

South Cornwall, the land of boating, creeks, rivers, tropical gardens, coast and sunshine. Doesn’t sound like England at all, right? Well luckily for you, it is and we have an amazing selection of cottages across this beautiful area. From Porthleven in the east, to Lizard in the south and Penryn to the west, this little section of Cornwall is blessed by a gorgeous coastline and picturesque towns and villages a plenty.

Our cottages in Porthleven are all exceptionally close to the sea and boast amazing views of this historic harbour town and the glistening sea and sky. Relax on the balcony of a two person bolthole with your significant other, or book one of our large luxury properties in the area, perfect for the whole family. Porthleven remains a working harbour to this day and many visitors delight in watching the fishing boats sail in and out of the docks, while also enjoying all the spoils of fresh catch in the town’s various pubs, restaurants and chip shops.

Another coastal town in South Cornwall that is very focused on boat life is Falmouth. Situated at the mouth of the River Fal, Falmouth was once at the heart of the transatlantic trade and passenger route during the 18th and 19th centuries, but today it enjoys a reputation as being a family-friendly coastal town. We have plenty of self-catering homes in Falmouth also, including a large portion of luxury properties, including those with swimming pools so that you can take full advantage of the Mediterranean climate in Falmouth at home and on the beach.

If the Mediterranean climate of South Cornwall appeals to you, then take a look at our properties along the Helford river. Made up of winding creeks, blue water, whitewashed riverside cottages and boats of every variety, the Helford estuary is a peaceful beauty spot loved by all who visit. A stay in one of our Helford holiday cottages allows you to explore the pretty villages and paths in the area, as well as the Trebah and Glendurgan tropical gardens nearby. Gweek is another spot on the Helford river where we have properties and is home to the Gweek seal sanctuary, a hit with animal lovers, children and anyone who visits really!

The Lizard peninsula is also a big draw of South Cornwall and is great for clifftop walking, beach excursions and, as part of Cornwall’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is truly breath-taking. Cadgwith Cove is one of the peninsula’s most picturesque beaches and is open to dogs all year round, making it a great spot for a holiday with your four-legged friend. Luckily for you, our homes in Cadgwith are pet-friendly, although you can browse our whole range of dog-friendly cottages across Cornwall and choose which pet appropriate spot you most desire.

South Cornwall is also home to the county capital, Truro. Truro is Britain’s most southerly mainland city and was originally a tannery city, but is now best known for its antiquated streets and boutique shopping. Lemon Street Pannier market and Truro’s weekly outdoor food market are particular local shopping highlights, which you can read more about in our Cornwall travel guide. For something a little unusual, Bert Biscoe’s walking history tours are a fun way to learn about the city. You can choose from The History of Truro tour, departing on Mondays at 10AM, or Characters of Truro, departing Fridays at 10AM. The tours are £7.50 per person and you meet outside Truro Visitor Centre to begin the walks.

Finally, we can’t introduce South Cornwall without talking about the Eden Project. Eden is not just one of Cornwall’s most popular attractions, but one of the UK’s most famous too. The park’s iconic biomes aim to recreate the ecosystems of different global climates in an attempt to educate people about biodiversity and eco systems. It really is so much fun and there is always lots going on around the whole park, including plenty of cafes and refreshment points.

We hope we’ve whet your appetite for this part of Cornwall, all that’s left to do is explore our range of cottages and get your suitcase ready!
