Summer’s on the way and what better way to celebrate than by winning a great family holiday?

Along with our partners, Micro Scooters, we’re offering you the chance to win a week’s holiday in Swanage on the gorgeous Dorset coast. As well as the holiday we’ll give you a fantastic family set of scooters, while five lucky runners-up will receive a child’s scooter accessory pack. Click here to enter!

Swanage is a great place to take a family holiday. There’s a fantastic Blue Flag beach to be enjoyed with long golden sands, clear blue water, and some of the warmest weather in the UK. Stop at the nearby Beach Gardens for a game of tennis, a round of putting, or a game of bowls depending on what takes your fancy. A short distance away the Victorian pier stretches into the sea and a walk to the end gives you great views across the water to the Isle of Wight and beyond. It’s also the place for a diving excursion or to board the world’s last remaining sea-going paddle steamer for a trip along the coast.

There’s transport from yesteryear on land as well – children (and grown-ups) will love the thrill of travelling by steam train at Swanage Railway on its six mile journey to Norden where it stops at Corfe Castle station which has been lovingly restored to its former glory. Disembark here to explore the ruin that gave the station its name. Corfe Castle is another family favourite, perched on top of the Purbeck Hills it is a great place for youngsters to explore and pretend to be Knights, Kings, Queens and Princesses. Once they’ve exhausted the possibilities of castle life the Corfe Castle Model Village allows them to feel like giants instead amongst the popular miniature recreation of the castle and village. This fabulous display shows what things would have looked like in 1646, and as well as walking amongst the models you can also have fun exploring the enchanted garden, playing giant board games and trying out the working stocks and pillories!

If nature is more your thing then you’re spoilt for choice. There are two national nature reserves (Stoborough Heath and Hartland Moor) North West of Corfe Castle and Durlston Country Park is along the coast just a few miles south of Swanage; it’s a great place to spot terns, skuas, stripe-winged grasshoppers and even bottlenose dolphins. If your children prefer their animals a little more raucous then take them to Monkey World, the cheeky inhabitants will delight every visitor with their antics.

For those with an interest in all things prehistoric then Dorset and its Jurassic Coastline is the perfect place for fossil hunting. Fossils certainly fascinate the youngsters and we’re sure you will have many a captivating day searching for evidence of a T-Rex or dragon-like creature along the beaches of Swanage and this ancient coastline.
