Dogs love going on holidays. It’s a great chance for them to meet new people, new dogs, explore new areas, see new sights, and sniff new smells. And if we’re honest, would you really want to leave your pet behind, pining for you while you’re away? Holidays should be a time for families, and the dog is as much a part of the family as anyone. Below you’ll find five fantastic pet friendly holidays that you’ll all love.

Cross the border into Scotland and you’ll find yourself in excellent dog walking country. Unlike England where public access is restricted to public footpaths, Scotland’s laws give you the right to walk on most land, as long as you behave responsibly. Buildings and their immediate surroundings, houses and their gardens, and fields of crops are out of bounds, but you are free to explore most other places. And with so many moors, woods, mountains and rivers to discover, that’s a whole lot of wonderful walking for you and your dog.

When you’re looking for pet friendly holidays it’s important to look at all aspects of what’s on offer. There must be good, varied walking territory – for both dogs and humans – great pet friendly accommodation, and also places to visit that are happy to see your dog. Suffolk ticks all these boxes. You can choose an area on the beautiful Suffolk Heritage Coast, perhaps in the AONB near Dunwich and Southwold. You could also choose central Suffolk with its beautiful wool towns and long country walks, or maybe somewhere near the forests of Rendlesham or Thetford. The county has lots of pet friendly attractions, and even more pet friendly pubs!

Dogs love spending time in the garden, so why not take your holiday in Kent, the garden of England? You’ll have miles and miles of footpaths to explore; the area has two large AONBs to spend your days in, and a long coastline should you desire some fresh sea air. It’s also extremely well placed to take a day trip in London and show your dog the sights in the capital.

At the other end of the country Cornwall’s dramatic landscape is another top destination for taking pet friendly holidays. The county has the longest coastline in the country with miles and miles of long sandy beaches for your dog to explore. Inland there are acres of moorland to run across, and you’ll find Cornwall has numerous dog friendly pubs and restaurants serving delicious food made from top local produce for you to dine out on.

Wales is an ideal place for pet friendly holidays. The whole country is a dog walker’s dream, with six AONBs (Anglesey, Gower, Llŷn, the Clwydian Range, Dee Valley and Wye Valley) and three National Parks (Snowdonia, Pembrokeshire Coast, and Brecon Beacons) just waiting to be explored. Even outside these designated areas there are so many exciting and beautiful parts of the country to see. Mountains or coastline, forest or fields, town or country, Wales is such an exciting place to visit for you and your dog. The only problem you’ll have is deciding where to go first.
