Organising a large family holiday can be difficult. Different people will have different tastes and there are so many choices it can be tough to decide. You probably lead a busy life and just getting round to agreeing a destination is hard work. Here are five easy ideas for large family holidays that will inspire you and help you choose where you are all off to next:

Base yourself at a coastal resort

One easy way of ensuring a great family holiday is locating yourself in a wonderful place, so you don’t have to go too far to have a good time. If you have a young family as part of your group, then loading up the car to go anywhere is a major operation why nor rent a holiday cottage in an one of the interesting coastal resorts like Southwold, Swanage, Whitby, Broadstairs or Whitstable? Everything you need – beach, sea, independent shops, pubs and cafes – is on your doorstep. What better than leaving your car parked for most of your stay and just strolling out of the door to your next adventure?

Life on a working farm

There are a number of holiday cottages located on working farms which offer young families an ideal setting for a holiday. Many of the farm owners organise tours of the farm and stables, as well as daily feeding sessions where youngsters can pet and feed the animals. Working farms not only offer wonderful childhood experiences, but they also tend to be located in remote places that are beautiful settings in their own right and ideal bases for exploring the surrounding area.

You can’t fail with a National Park or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Taking in the full range of landscapes from rolling hills and rugged coastline to stunning mountains and ancient woodland, there are 15 National Parks across the British Isles as well as 38 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Some you may have heard of, some you may have not – all are special places. If you are undecided about where to spend your next family holiday, choosing a location in or near one of these designated areas will guarantee you great scenery, beautiful landscapes to explore and much more besides. National parks tend to offer more outdoor activities while AONBs will take you to places you may never have been before. Maybe you could decide to work your way around the lot, staying at a different one each year?

Let’s get physical

If you have active youngsters in your group, one easy idea is to head for a destination where they can burn off some of that energy and enthusiasm by trying a new outdoor activity. Water sports abound in many places – sea kayaking in Wales, surfing in Cornwall, windsurfing in Devon. You can try white water rafting in Snowdonia, canyoning in the Lake District, climbing on the North Yorkshire Moors, mountain-biking on the South Downs, caving in the Brecon Beacons and land yachting on Kent’s beaches, to name but a few. Not only will you have a good time but you and your family members will have picked up a new skill and, maybe, a new hobby.

More than a home from home

If you have a family you undoubtedly lead a busy life. You might not want to go gallivanting across the region every day of your holiday and are looking forward to simply unwinding in a great property and catching up with the brood. An easy idea for a holiday in this case is to choose a cottage with that something special, so you and your family are guaranteed a good time during your stay. A great garden or view, a hot tub, a good play area, an open fire, a large living area for congregating for games – all these can enhance your stay no end. There is a host of wonderful holiday properties that offer all these and more. Start looking now and you will soon be inspired.
