Description

This charming tucked away terraced cottage is stylishly presented whilst retaining its original character and is a great North Devon bolt hole for couples or small families together with their canine companion. In the heart of the village of West Down, July Cottage is convenient for the popular Crown Inn, a 17th Century freehouse and also the well supported community village stores. Close to the cottage is the community field were your four legged friend can stretch their legs, there's even a dog shower awaiting those muddy paws on their return!

The cottage is well located for guests to visit the golden sandy beaches of Woolacombe and Putsborough, both around a 15 minute drive away and ideal for surfers and beach lovers with its rolling, unbroken surf and views out towards Lundy Island. The high moors, deep valleys and sparkling rivers of Exmoor National Park beckon for other memorable days out. The harbour town of Ilfracombe with Damien Hirst’s bronze sculpture Verity, its many individual shops, cafes and restaurants is nearby and well worth a visit too.

On one side of the room is the kitchen and dining area, complete with tiled floor. There is a well fitted kitchen with a dining table set to the rear. Reviews

Cute cottage in a friendly village. Easy access to all the places of interest that we wanted to visit. Would book again.

Mrs V,

Lovely cottage with lots of character. Spotlessly clean and well equipped. Great location for exploring the area. A short walk back to the car park for loading/unloading, could be a little awkward for anyone with mobility issues. Great community shop. We really enjoyed our stay.

Mrs H,

The peaceful little cottage was cosy, clean and thoughtfully decorated with some lovely quirky touches. Pretty and comfortable bedrooms. A little dark downstairs, but comfy sofa, log burner and nice little kitchen area with everything you need. Ideal for a couple or family with younger children. Lovely cool seaside colours. No direct access to a garden so dog owners have a short, but safe and quiet, off road walk to the private enclosed garden and the community field beyond. Very quiet village. Friendly pub and well stocked community shop within a few minutes walk. No problem parking. Short drive to amazing beaches.

Mrs P,

We enjoyed our stay at July cottage, despite some cleanliness issues which we have raised with the owner separately. The location in the village is lovely, on a very sweet pedestrianised lane, and the village itself is about 20mins from Saunton, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe, using narrow country roads mostly. The space is well organised and decorated, and we had most things we needed for our stay. It's worth taking extra logs for the fire - we stayed at the end of summer when days were around 18° and the cottage was chilly at night, probably because it has very thick walls, so we needed the heat of the fire. Accessibility notes as someone who has mobility issues with a knee injury - there are steps between the main bedroom and bathroom once you're upstairs. The shower screen opens outwards into the bathroom to allow more space to climb in and out of the bath. A non-slip bath mat is provided. There are a couple of types of cobbles on the wall from the car park to cottage, and the ground is generally uneven. I found these cobbles slippery in wet weather. If you arrive on the dark, make sure you have a torch to walk to the cottage. If you're planning to use the second bedroom as an adult be aware it's a small single bed very low to the ground and isn't particularly comfortable. We would consider returning if assurances were made about the cleanliness issues we've raised.

Mrs D,

A gorgeous little cottage set in a quaint quiet village and perfectly placed for Devon adventures! It is equipped with everything you need with little treats left to enjoy on arrival. The staff and regulars at the local pub 'The Crown' were so welcoming and the food delicious. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return.

Mrs B,

Great little cosy cottage with all the home comforts. Fantastic location with lots of beautiful beaches and places to visit on your doorstep. Great local village shop - all run by volunteers.

Ms S,

The cottage is home away from home. Beautiful and comfortable. If you have dogs it is dog friendly and there is a private garden less that a minute from the cottage which is enclosed for your dogs to do their business. It’s in a great location close to all the local beaches. The locals were incredibly friendly and helpful. The cottage has a doggy shower in the front porch which on rainy days is welcome especially after beach walks.

Miss S,

Lovely cosy cottage centrally located to visit north Devon. No parking at the property as it is tucked away in a pedestrian part which is lovely as you get no cars driving past.

Mrs S,

Lovely comfortable cottage, felt like home. Lovely quiet village with local shop and busy pub
