Description

This is the life!

The living is certainly easy in Hygge House; an impressive architecturally designed & stylishly furnished two bed holiday home in the stunningly beautiful village of Shaldon.

"Hygge" (pronounced Hoo-gah) is a Danish word that evokes moments of bliss, comfort, cosiness and friendship - something that the Hygge House delivers whether the sun is shining or not.

Bedrooms
Two beautifully appointed bedrooms offer a king-sized bed in one room and two 3ft singles in another which can be zipped together if required. If you wish to invite another guest, a camp bed can be set up in the communal area. Travel cots are also available on request.

Both bedrooms have en-suites where you will find snuggly towels, shower gel & soap.

Living room
Relax after a long day exploring in front of a romantic log burner with all the wood you need or switch on the Smart TV for Freeview & On Demand services. If you feel like a little bit of jazz with dinner, the Sonos surround sound system will offer all the music you need, while the kids can be entertained with a variety of board games, a Brio set and even a doll's house.

Kitchen
If you would like to cook the fish you have brought home from the beach, the well-appointed kitchen will offer everything you need. With a Neff oven, induction hob, integral microwave and a fridge with freezer compartments you really have a 'home from home'. Best of all, the dishwasher and washing machine will mean that you won't be slaving over the sink! Don't worry about bringing kitchen essentials - everything you need is provided, including a highchair, plastic cutlery, bowls and plates for the little ones. There's also a freezer situated in the garage just outside.

Dining
A dining table with four chairs is ideal for a small group or you can eat al fresco BBQ on the patio while looking out across the Teign Estuary as the sun sets in the background.

Outside & Parking
As well as the outdoor seating area and gas BBQ, the shed is fully stocked with everything a beach holiday needs including buckets, spades and crabbing nets. Don't forget to let us know if you need beach towels (at a small charge). The drive has enough space for 2 cars.

Location
Situated on the South Devon coast across the Teign estuary and opposite the resort of Teignmouth; Shaldon is an unspoilt Georgian village with a great range of local shops and attractions.

Shaldon is a blessed with a large number of independent shops; a butcher with fruit & veg, a baker, convenience store, lots of cafés, restaurants and there are some very good eateries close by in Teignmouth too. There are also some beauticians, hairdressers, an interiors shop and a small clothing boutique!

Things to do
There are some great days out around Shaldon, with clean beaches that are ideal for swimming, sailing, rowing, paddling and rock pooling. From Shaldon beach, the famous passenger ferry will take you across to explore Teignmouth.

At the top of the village you can find the Shaldon Wildlife Centre, which is dedicated to conservation and is in fact a small zoo. The Trust is located by the large Ness Car Park at the top of the village, and this is the nearest place to park to reach the Ness Cove beach - via The Smugglers Tunnel. Above the zoo is Shaldon Approach Golf Course where you can hire clubs and enjoy a truly picturesque game of golf.

Across the estuary one can find Teignmouth Golf Club as you play the course, there's more & more stunning scenery, both out to sea and across to Dartmoor.

The Templer Way is a route for walkers, linking Haytor on Dartmoor to the mouth of the Teign. It follows, where possible, the route of the Granite Tramway, the Stover Canal and the Teign Estuary.

Getting Around
Near Shaldon the local towns of Newton Abbot, and Torquay can be reached both by train or the regular bus service, this also extends to reach the city of Exeter with a magnificent Cathedral and wonderful history plus good shopping too.

Reviews

Had a lovely stay. Nice quiet location but a bit far from the village to be able to walk it. Still enjoyed our time there tremendously

Mrs C,

Very hi-tech excellent host and very helpful

Mr W,

Lovely property. Ideal for our requirements and the owners were extremely kind

Mrs R,

Really enjoyed our week at Hygge House. The large spacious living area was idea for our two dogs and despite the weather being very cold the house was comfortably warm with under floor heating supplemented by log burner and free standing heaters. Ideal location for long walks and Shaldon was a lovely village.

mr M,

This house is near the beautiful village of Shaldon with the estuary just across the owner’s garden. Lots of great walks out the door and a lovely modern property.

Ms E,

We had a lovely stay at Hygge House. It was easy to find with the clear instructions and there was a surprise welcome which went down a treat. The property is equipped with very high standard appliances, it's clean, spacious, warm, light and very comfortable. The owner gave us some helpful information about the area upon arrival and there was also a stash of leaflets and maps of all the local walks and attractions which was much appreciated having never visited the area before. The town of Shaldon is quaint and pretty with the beach, shop and local pubs within walking distance of the property which is snuggled in its own quiet corner. I couldn't ask any more from a holiday property, it delivered everything I was looking for.

Miss F,
